Historic Dunbar School In 1927, Flagstaff opened Dunbar School, the city's first segregated school, named in honor of celebrated African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. Before Dunbar was built, Black students were taught in a single designated room at Emerson School in downtown Flagstaff. An art exhibition is set to take place at the Murdoch Center from June 18-20, with a reception on June 18 from 5-7 PM.
