(Flagstaff, AZ) – On Wednesday, July 23 at 11:00 AM MT, Mayor Becky Daggett, local experts, and residents affected by wildfires and floods will gather at the Murdoch Community Center for a press conference on the accelerating threats of extreme weather in Northern Arizona. The event will underscore how climate-fueled wildfires and flooding are placing Flagstaff residents in harm’s way—and how recent federal rollbacks to clean energy and resilience funding will make it harder for the community to prepare and respond.
Speakers will call on Arizona’s congressional delegation to oppose the Trump administration’s cuts to critical climate and health protections and to defend clean energy and disaster preparedness programs that protect lives and livelihoods.
WHAT:
Press conference to spotlight the rising threats of wildfires, floods, and extreme heat in Northern Arizona, the human cost of federal climate rollbacks, and the urgent need to protect resilience investments.
This summer, the CAC’s Extreme Weather Emergency Tour will put a spotlight on how climate change is making extreme weather more frequent, more intense, more costly, and more deadly. The tour will make stops in four states – Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia – detailing the impacts worsening heat, storms, wildfires, flooding, and other extreme weather events are having on communities – especially our most vulnerable communities.
The tour will also highlight how the Trump administration’s rollbacks of climate protections – standards that are meant to address the root cause of extreme weather – and attacks on agencies like FEMA and NOAA are exacerbating extreme weather and weakening disaster preparedness and response. Speakers on the tour will showcase solutions to the pressing problem of extreme weather, highlighting the importance of pollution protections, clean energy incentives, and more.
