What our upcoming board meeting will discuss

Our next board meeting will be focused on planning and organizing several key community events that bring people together and celebrate our shared values. These include the annual Ms. Cleo’s Tea Party, the Juneteenth Celebration and Gala, and fundraising efforts for two important community spaces: the Resilience Hub and Murdoch Friendship Garden. We will also brainstorm ideas for future events and programs to keep our community engaged and connected.

Planning Ms. Cleo’s Tea Party

Ms. Cleo’s Tea Party has become a cherished tradition in our community. It offers a warm, welcoming space for neighbors to gather, share stories, and enjoy tea and light refreshments.

The goal is to make this year’s tea party even more memorable.

Organizing the Juneteenth Celebration and Gala

Juneteenth holds deep significance as a day to honor freedom and African American heritage. This event is a chance to reflect on history, celebrate progress, and build connections across cultures. We want to create a space that is respectful, joyful, and inspiring. Our celebration and gala combine education, entertainment, and community spirit. The board will focus on the beginning stages of planning this event.

Fundraising for the Resilience Hub and Murdoch Friendship Garden

Both the Resilience Hub and Murdoch Friendship Garden serve as vital community resources. The Resilience Hub offers support services and programs that help individuals and families thrive. Murdoch Friendship Garden provides a peaceful outdoor space for reflection and gatherings. Our fundraising efforts will focus on sustaining these spaces ensures they remain welcoming and accessible for everyone.

Brainstorming future community events

Beyond these key projects, the board will dedicate time to brainstorming new ideas for events and programs. We want to hear from the community about what interests them most. Possible ideas include:

  • Workshops on wellness, arts, or local history

  • Family-friendly events or movie nights

  • Volunteer days to improve neighborhood spaces

  • Cultural celebrations that highlight diverse traditions

If you have ideas or want to suggest a specific event or program, please email us at southsideflagstaff@gmail.com. Your input helps shape a calendar that reflects the community’s needs and passions.
